Filming Blog: Sun Intrusion

Today I filmed all my scenes though I only have half of the content I needed and have to film another day. For me to film today I brought a backpack with me. It had my prop which was a shoebox, some extra clothing pieces, a NIKE visor, headphones, my mobile device that I used to film, and a folder with my script and storyboard. Today it was very hot when I went outside to film. I had a helper to help me film the angles I cannot do, like high angles. I also have a cast on so it made it a little more difficult but not too difficult that I couldn’t complete my to-do list today. It was overcast about to rain when I went outside to start. I got discouraged but then the sun came out and the greenery looked vibrant. I knew it was going to be a good time to film. Each scene took me at least two shots. However, it was difficult to review them because the sun was making the screen to my camera difficult to view and understand. I wanted to incorporate all the elements of nature like the sun, shadows, and vibrant colors of green into my film. I was allowed to do that with the weather today. When I was filming I went back-and-forth with my script and storyboard to make sure I got all my scenes. The clouds kept shifting and covering the sun so I had to work around the sun to get the right lighting. When I was filming a panoramic shot the shadows were prohibiting me from getting a clean shot. I have to try again the next time I film to do my best do you get a clean shot. Yet, I still managed to forgot to film some sections. By the time I finished I got inside and started to realize how much I sweated and reviewed all my shots. This way I noticed that I have to re-film some scenes and make sure that my camera is always tilted at landscape for the best for quality.

Storyboard Blog

First Scene:
For this scene It will be a split screen of one side being a close-up shot of the subject and the other side being me with a caption of my name and a sustainable slogan similar to the commercials shot by the brand and line of NIKE Move to Zero. The shoebox of the shoes will also be featured in the shot because they have the logo and they will be upon the grass. The shot of me is going to be a medium close up. The caption box where it’s going to say my name and my slogan is going to be green like the brands line color (lime green).

Second Scene:
During this scene I will be fixing the tongue of the shoe at a high angle looking like I’m preparing to walk or run showing an athletic aspect because it will be shot on the track. Here I will as be featuring NIKE socks to match the brand

Third Scene:
The third scene is going to be a wide shot of me walking getting ready to on the track with an overlay of graphics. Graphics is one of the conventions in Move to Zero commercials. It going to be a passage of time; opening the shoe box, fixing my shoes, to walking, to running, then leaping.

Fourth Scene:
For this scene it’s going to be a low angle shot of me leaping. The feature of this shot is going to be the outside of the shoe which is made with a sustainable material of cork-infused rubber which is going to be on text on the commercial. The background for the shot it’s going to be the sky because it was featured a lot in the commercials I researched. It’s also as an upbeat and energetic aspect of the sun with bright weather.

Fifth Scene:
In this fifth scene there’s going to be a panoramic shot of my shoes after I supposedly land from the leap in the scene before. It’s going to take place with jump cut editing. I’m also going to apply graphic overlay to this scene on the left top corner.

Sixth Scene:
During this scene it’s going to be a shot of me add a medium long shot format. Here I’m going to speak about the line and ask the audience to follow along with the journey and end it with saying that famous slogan of just do it with a thumbs up. For this one I’m going to do a overlay of the lines name and the symbol for it. In the background of this scene it’s going to include the sky, track, grass and the sun is going to be facing me. The sun facing me appeals to a positive outlook connotation which engages the audience.

*Music will be adding in the background and three to six seconds for each scene

Planning Blog

 Props:

For my commercial since I chose to do a pair of NIKE sustainable materials shoes, my primary prop is those pair of shoes. Other props include a shoe box.

Costumes:

In my commercial I will wear fashionable athletic wear like a rain jacket and tights with a NIKE brand pair of socks wearing the shoes. I will wear vibrant colors and I will probably have my hair out of my face in a ponytail as most athletes wear their hair. I will also be wearing a T-shirt that says a slogan about being  ethically aware about the environment.

Schedule:

September 28: I am going to create my storyboard for the commercial and give a very detailed explanation on each square.

September 30: I am going to film the first half of my commercial which will be about 15 seconds of film when editing is done.

October 4: I am going to finish what I started filming and complete a whole 30 second commercial with all the necessary shots and camera movements.

October 6: I will be editing The commercial to make all the shots seem simultaneous and clean.

October 8: I will continue to edit, adding sounds and graphics which will be the final touches to my commercial. Once it is complete I will submit my work.

Location:

My primary location will be the track field you emphasize that it’s an athletic brand. As well to emphasize the shoes are not only for style and comfort but also to be active. This is where I would walk and run and leap for my commercial.

My second location is going to be in the patch of grass in front of the track field. There is where I am going to show a close-up shot of the shoes in their box and possibly take a pan shot of the shoes.

Back-up Plan:

If the weather does not choose to cooperate with my filming schedule I will take my filming on school campus. Behind the stairwell to the media center near the bathrooms there is a patch of grass and pavement that can be used for my ideas. I will also try to make the most of my time and film the important sections first.

Research Blog

To complete the assignment of making a commercial I began to research. I am doing a MOVE TO ZERO NIKE shoes commercial. In these commercials the audience views how these environmentally sustainable shoes are made and the materials used to make them.

  • The people either walk, run, jump, or sit swinging their feet demonstrating that they can not only be used for athletic purposes.
  • The people shown in the advertisements are usually interested in saving the earth with small captions of their mottos or their professions.
  • The facial expressions are happy and the sun is always facing them.
  • They also wear another piece of clothing showing the NIKE logo that is also from the sustainable line of design.
  • These commercials include non-diegetic sound that have an electric, upbeat tune which creates a positive emotional response from the audience, it persuades them to get them. The tune makes the shoes seem extremely "cool" and "fresh"
Conventions Inside the Commercials:
  1. The sign used for the MOVE TO ZERO line is included. It is eight NIKE checkmarks formed into a circle. This persuades people to follow along with NIKE through a journey of zero waste and carbon for the better of sports and Earth.
  2.  In these commercials most of the people wear NIKE brand socks and they wear a more fashionable type of athletic wear or modern dress wear. For instance, nylon sweatpants and jackets or straight jeans.
  3. In EVERY one of these commercials vibrant colors are used mostly because the logo of the line its self is in lime green but to also to draw attention to the significant elements making it memorable.
  4. Also all the commercials use a lot of graphics and technology symbolizing that this is becoming the future.

Group Blog

For my commercial project I have chosen to work alone. Instead for possibly jeopardizing my project I have decided this. In this position I am the only one responsible for my grade and effort. When I have previously worked in a group there is always one person who does not do the work and others must pick up their slack. Further, relaying on others for vital information to complete tasks can frustrating when I am let down. This is unfair to the whole group and overall it is our groups fault for allowing that person in. I believe it is easier to excuse my vision myself because others cannot imagine or may not understand it, so it will become difficult for it to happen. To avoid my idea from not becoming executed it is better for me to work solo. For this project I must plan correct and complete my storyboard, I am sure I could complete my project in the same time a group could. To plan for this project I am going to write all my tasks down and organize them in order. This is a positive thing when working alone because now I will have more time management control. Also, to work alone allows for a reduction for distractions. It might sound boring; however, I tend to find happiness in my own silence and laugh often. Often working in a group can cause me stress from managing others and having to do constant check-ins. It sometimes side tracks me from my work and then I must work the double amount and race to complete the assignment. In addition working with others cause me to feel obligated to to not take breaks or relax for a little in fear of others saying something bad. It will just make me more relaxed and productive to work solitary. Conflict will less likely to happen and social relationships can be preserved in addition. In groups many classmates tend to disagree leading to broken friendships which is distracting and takes away from the work. Another thing is due to peer-pressure my ideas might not even be able to be considered and can cause my self-esteem to lower. In the end I believe working unaccompanied is the best option for me to work at my full potential.

This is when it's better to work alone versus on a team

Introductory Blog

I am Hannah and am a particularly active teenager. I do mixed martial arts, tennis, cycling, and running. For hobbies I paint, journal, bake, and have been recently interested in learning to play the keyboard. I enjoy reading Greek mythology related books for pleasure and being outside. I am interested in environmental management. As well sustainability actions we can take to improve our Earth. Being productive and organized is crucial for me because I am one to be easily overwhelmed with the multiple things I do daily. I am also interested in architecture that includes methods of sustainability. To be more specific I want to focus in bio cyclic design. Focusing on things that improve my future and myself brings me satisfaction. I believe that my faith and family is a priority, that influences many decisions in my life. I think it is important to have a lot of tools in my individual tool box. One of them that I wanted, was having knowledge about the media industry. The film and entertainment industry has always intrigued me and is the reason I chose to take AICE Media Studies. The thing I am most interested in learning is the behind the scene jobs and professions that are involved in a production. It is astonishing how when those professions unite they generate a intricate creation like a movie. Another thing that interests me about this class is being able to learn about the type of technologies professionals use for their films. For instance, in class I viewed a video about how movies use special effects. With technology like audio processing they can make enhancements to the sounds they record. They add all the sound they made to the films and you could never tell that it was lettuce making that noise we hear in the film.
