Another Day of Filming My Music Video

I filmed my last scene. The last scene was specially the third scene and it has two shots in it. I shot this scene in a dark room with table and a clock.  I made sure to include those elements (the table and clock) in my shots. It will look somewhat alike to the photo below. I reviewed all of the takes I took and know how to order them to complete my music video. I first shot is a wide shot and the second one is a medium close-up. Since I finished I need to upload the videos to my computer and edit them. I want to apply a film film over them and probably crop the videos. To film the remaining two shots I had to adjust the exposure on the camera. I had to adjust it because it was still sunny outside. To complete this project I had a helper to help me shoot and set-up. She helped adjust myself to the camera and tell me if I was conveying the right emotions to capture the feeling of the lyrics. As well as told me wear to place the clock as to where it can be seen in the video. Her name is Brianna which is the other girl seen in the photo and behind us is the set-up for the scene. My storyboard papers are on the table seen in the picture because I was constantly referring back to it for guidance. Today I wore a lazy costume but still coinciding with the color scheme. My costume overall is a little blue hoodie and some loose black pants. I have started editing already, I editing everything except this third scene. I will just insert the shots I took and start editing. I must figure out how to specifically match it to the other scenes editing. However, it is fairly easy to complete that task.

Editing My Music Video

To begin editing I organized all the shots in order. Then had to ensure that all the shots were the right length and included some filming speed changes so that they may correspond with the lyrics. Then added a text overlay on the first and last scene. The text on the first scene included the name of the song. The text o the second one included the name of the artist who created it. All of this editing was done on a MacBook using the Adobe Premiere Pro application. I used Premiere Pro this time to edit because it has many more options to edit, especially for text. The text could have effects applied to it and more option for suiting fonts to fit the feeling of the video. When all the shots were in, the total gave me too many seconds so, I had to cut down some scene. I also cropped multiple videos. I specially cropped second scene which is close-up. I had to cut some of the shots because they had some random things in the background that were not props. For example, I had a someone's shoes in the back and some shadows. I added a camera film filter on top of the whole video because that was one of the conventions in children pop video. One thing was that I have not yet filmed one scene which really does not allow me to completely view to fully product to se if I can improve anything. The good thing was that I can truly focus on the other scenes to be good and I will not have to focus too much on the other scenes editing. I had to slow down the scene because I had multiple takes for the scene and none of them had enough time. However, when I slowed it down it did not look choppy how I feared it would. It gives a nice slow motion effect. I had to view it a numerous amount of times to make sure it does not look choppy. I still have to fix some shots still. Overall I made a good amount of progress and believe I can complete it with one more day of editing.

Filming My Music Video

So far I filmed all my scenes except one. I only have to film for another day for one last scene. For me to film on my thanksgiving break during a trip I brought a backpack specifically just for things for my video. In that backpack I brought my costume, blankets, shoes, my storyboards, props, and my mobile device that I used to film. I woke up very early in the morning to try to film all of my scenes. Early in the morning was the perfect weather to film my video, it was not sunny nor too dark. To help me film myself I used my sister and told her what camera movements I wanted. I filmed in the backyard of the house, in my room, in the living room, in the pathway of front door, and the side wall of the outside of the house. Since I was on vacation I had to keep everyone from being in my takes for every scene. That made it very difficult to find the perfect shot. When I first began filming I had dropped my camera and the settings had changed to a better quality accidentally which allowed me to notice that my camera had better video taking settings. For one of the scenes my parents and I had to go to the nearest Starbucks to get at least an authentic coffee cup. Then, I came home and filled the empty cup with a little bit of an espresso shot, milk, water, and ice. Also, because all throughout the house that I filmed in there were windows I had to adjust the exposure on the camera not in the surroundings. This sometimes caused the lighting to be different throughout the video. For most of my scene there was some type of object of reflection so had to make sure that the camera was not seen in the shots. I had reshot multiple scenes because of the timing of the lyrics in the song. Each scene had to correspond to the correct lyrics. Before I shot my film I did a example or replica of my music video. I did that replica so that I could make sure that I included all the camera shots and movements that I needed to capture in my actual music video, in a way I used it as a reference. It really came in handy and that is how I am sure I captured everything in needed to.

Storyboard for my Music Video

First Scene:
For this scene it will be a medium close-up with a text overlay with the title and artist of the song. I will be walking forth and back and then remove the text.  The text front is going to be in a similar fonts family as the example video I have watched. I will be wearing fall winter colors with a neutral emotion on face alike to the other artists featured in their video. I will be standing behind a white background with neutral lighting.

Second Scene (second and third box):
During this scene I will be in bed in my room acting like I just woke up with dark lighting. The first shot will be at a high angle and a medium close-up. The next shot will be at a corner of the room and a wide or long shot. I will be sitting up in my bed. I will make the second shot in the video has limited lightning using a lamp with a yellow tone light. I will be wearing a light blue hoodie and my hair will be messy.

Third Scene (fourth and fifth boxes):
The third scene is going to be of me working at a desk with multiple papers and books on the desk. The first shot will be a wide shot with my back to the camera. It will feature me and a clock. There will be limited lighting throughout the scene. I will be acting stressed and focused. The next shot will be a medium close-up of me still at the desk put it will capture be looking at the clock desperately and annoyed waiting to finish writing with my pencil still wearing the light blue hoodie.

Fourth Scene (sixth and seventh boxes):
For this scene it will be a medium close-up of me walking focusing with my shoes then a tilt up to me acting, I will  take a big breath. I might make that scene a track shot also. I will wear a navy blue shirt and light blue jeans. The lighting will be neutral because it is outside.

Fifth Scene:
This will be a medium shot with a panorama. I will be outside on blanket in the grass. I will using a mobile device to text message a friend “will you come through?”. This is scene portrays that am relating to the lyrics. I will be wearing black causal pants and a white sweater. The sunset will also be in the back to capture that element alike to the examples.

Sixth Scene:
This scene will be a medium shot with zoom that goes to a close-up shot being hand-held. In the scene I will be siting on the floor with pillows and a blanket. I will use a coffee cup as a prop, books, and work papers to demonstrate all the hard work that is making me "exhausted". I will me acting zoned out watching a screen, checking my phone, and this correlates to the lyrics when it says "im lost in my imagination". I will be wearing the light blue hoodie and casual pants again.

Seventh Scene :
This scene will include an over the shoulder shot with the sunset in front. I will then proceed to to turn around and look straight that the camera to connect with viewers alike to the examples. It will be a eye level medium close-up shot. The scene will be short. I will be wearing the navy blue shirt with light blue jeans to appeal to the chilly weather and create a relaxed mood for the viewers. This will also be a slow motion edit shot.

Eighth Scene:
This scene will be a long shot. I will proceed to to smile and look straight that the camera to connect with viewers alike to the examples. I will dance and jump. I will act confused because at this scene the lyrics included a question. I will point at the camera also. The lighting will also be neutral because I will be outside near a lake with a sunset. I will be wearing the navy blue shirt with light blue jeans to appeal to the chilly weather and create a relaxed mood for the viewers.

Ninth Scene:
This scene will be a wide shot. It will include a tracking shot of me walking in the grass and proceed to to smile looking straight that the camera to connect with viewers alike to the examples. I will serious because at this scene the lyrics includes a demand. I will hold up a number one at the camera also. The lighting will also be neutral because I will be outside near a lake with a sunset. I will be wearing the navy blue shirt with light blue jeans to appeal to the chilly weather and create a relaxed mood for the viewers.

Planning for My Music Video

 Song Title:

The artist of "comethru" is Jeremy Zucker.

 Props:

For my commercial since in the lyrics of the song is refers to coffee I am to use a coffee cup or mug. I will also use a pair of shoes and probably a bike or kayak.

Costumes:

In my music video I will wear casual sweater, hoodie, or sweatshirt. I will wear baggy pants like maybe sweatpants or straight relaxed jeans. Also, I will wear fall-winter colors and I will probably have my hair down most artists wore their hair like that in their music video outside. I will also be wearing NIKE shoes because weirdly most artist were wearing them and featuring them.

Schedule:

November 19: I am going to create my storyboard for the music video and give a very detailed explanation on each square.

November 20-21: I am going to film the most of my music video.

November 30: I might finish filming if I did not complete my video with all the necessary shots and camera movements.

December 1: I will be editing the music video to make all the shots seem simultaneous and clean.

December 3: I will continue to edit, adding the sounds and text which will be the final touches to my music video. Once it is complete I will submit my work.

Location:

My primary location will be Cape Coral to emphasize the natural setting with the sunset and chilly weather. I am going there on a trip to relax so it will be a fun experience to film the actives I am doing to incorporate them in my video.

My second location is going to be a park near my house there is where I might possibly film the extra shots I might need for the video

Back-up Plan:

If the weather does not choose to cooperate with my filming schedule I will take my filming to the park near my house. There is a lot of nature like grass hills, trails surrounded by trees, and a lake. I will also try to make the most of my time and film the important sections.

Research Blog: Music Video Conventions

This song that I chose- "comethru" is part of the pop genre. More specifically soft and chill pop. These music video are more on the sad, reflective, and chill mood type. Most of music videos in the same genre include...

Mis-En-Scence

  •  The solo artist is outside looking relaxed and calm.
  • All the similar music videos were shot in nature with a sunset in the back. Also, the weather always seem as if it was chilly and cold outside, around fall-winter time.
  • Most of the videos portrayed a lost feeling in life and that that feeling was okay to feel. At the end of the videos it as if they seemed to find themselves again.
  • Also all the artists were dancing, doing hang signs, and lip-syncing in their videos.
  • In most of the videos at least one instrument is portrayed. For example, a guitar or a keyboard. At least one type of prop that related to the lyrics.
  • All the music videos included the artist in casual dress wear. For instance, they wore sweaters, hoodies, baggy pants, and casual shoes athletic shoes.
  • In almost each one of the videos a shot of their shoes is included.
  • The lighting included natural light from the sun and shadows.
Camera Movements and Shots
  • A panorama is usually included at least once in the video.
  • There were tilts.
  • There were multiple extreme close-ups and close-ups.
  • Many wide shots.
  • Many long shots and medium-long shots.
  • A POV shot was included.
  • Also many over the shoulder shots.
  • Multiple tracking shots at medium shot incorporated.
Editing
  • The title of the song is inserted at the beginning.
  • The also included grain and filter overlays of more neutralized contrast.
  • There was a part were a slow-motion editing feature was done.
  • There was a fade in at the end of the music videos- it was probably for dramatic effect.
Sound
  • There was non-diegetic sound inserting in to the music video which was just the sound created by the artist
  • At the end there was diegetic sound which was the artist being excited and proud of song, they were clapping.

Group Blog

For my music video project I have chosen to work alone. Instead for possibly jeopardizing my project I have decided this. I am going to have help filming though but by my friends and family. In this position I am the only one responsible for my grade and effort. When I have previously worked in a group there is always one person who does not do the work and others must pick up their slack. Further, relaying on others for vital information to complete tasks can frustrating when I am let down. This is unfair to the whole group and overall it is our groups fault for allowing that person in. I believe it is easier to excuse my vision myself because others cannot imagine or may not understand it, so it will become difficult for it to happen. To avoid my idea from not becoming executed it is better for me to work solo. For this project I must plan correct and complete my storyboard, I am sure I could complete my project in the same time a group could. To plan for this project I am going to write all my tasks down and organize them in order. This is a positive thing when working alone because now I will have more time management control. Also, to work alone allows for a reduction for distractions. It might sound boring; however, I tend to find happiness in my own silence and laugh often. Often working in a group can cause me stress from managing others and having to do constant check-ins. It sometimes side tracks me from my work and then I must work the double amount and race to complete the assignment. In addition working with others cause me to feel obligated to to not take breaks or relax for a little in fear of others saying something bad. It will just make me more relaxed and productive to work solitary. Conflict will less likely to happen and social relationships can be preserved in addition. Another thing is due to peer-pressure my ideas might not even be able to be considered and can cause my self-esteem to lower. In the end I believe working unaccompanied is the best option for me to work at my full potential. The song I chose is “comethru” by Jeremy Zucker because I can imagine the film in my head that can connect to the lyrics. For example, there is a line in the lyrics where it say “scrolling patiently” and I can film me on my phone in my bed with a pan.

Introductory Blog

I am Hannah and am a particularly active teenager, not lately though do to a recent injury having to do with my elbow. Recently I have been spending my days in physical therapy and at the
orthopedics office. I do mixed martial arts, tennis, cycling, and running. For hobbies I code, paint, sketch, bake, and have been recently interested in learning to play the keyboard. I enjoy reading Greek mythology related books for pleasure and being outside. I am interested in environmental management. As well sustainability actions we can take to improve our Earth. Being productive and organized is crucial for me because I am one to be easily overwhelmed with the multiple things I do daily. I am also interested in architecture that includes methods of sustainability. To be more specific I want to focus in bio cyclic design. I am also interested in civil engineering and computer-aided design and drafting. Focusing on things that improve my future and myself brings me satisfaction. I believe that my faith and family is a priority, that influences many decisions in my life. I think it is important to have a lot of tools in my individual tool box. One of them that I wanted, was having knowledge about the media industry. The film and entertainment industry has always intrigued me and is the reason I chose to take AICE Media Studies. The thing I am most interested in learning is the behind the scene jobs and professions that are involved in a production. It is astonishing how when those professions unite they generate an intricate creation like a movie. Another thing that interests me about this class is being able to learn about the type of technologies professionals use for their films. For instance, in class I viewed a video about how movies use special effects. With technology like audio processing they can make enhancements to the sounds they record.
